Grandin Lewis
President
Why did I join FFA? I joined FFA to develop an outreach and meet new people. It was something that has been in my life since I was very little and I was so excited to put on the Blue Corduroy.
What has been your favorite FFA event or activity? My favorite event has to be state convention. You get to develop a relationship with your members and have the opportunity to meet some really amazing people.
What is your Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)? My supervised agriculture experience is my Suffolk sheep operation. I buy and sell Suffolks and show them all around the country.
What’s the most important thing FFA has taught you? FFA has taught me patience and to speak out loud with pride. It has helped me develop public speaking skills and has led me to developing leadership skills as well.
What’s your favorite animal and why? My favorite animal is a sheep. Like I stated in a previous question I show Suffolk sheep, and I have developed tons of skills in that experience, so they have done great in the show ring, and I love doing it.
What advice would you give to new FFA members? I would say don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to lend a helping hand and get involved. Sometimes doing that can help you learn something about yourself that you never even knew.
What’s your dream job or career goal? My dream job is to work for reproductive specialty group in Indiana. I want to study Reproductive Physiology in college and go to vet school which will set me up for that dream goal.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? If I could travel anywhere in the world I would want to go to Africa and learn how I can help solve world hunger and support children in other parts of the world.
What’s one fun fact most people don’t know about you? I have a strong interest in mechanic work and love to work on cars.
Favorite food or snack? My favorite food is lobster casserole. I have liked seafood ever since I was little, so I have a strong taste to it.
What’s your favorite hobby outside of FFA? My favorite hobby outside of FFA is working in my stepdad's mechanic shop. I like learning about engines and doing cool little upgrades to vehicles.
What’s a song that always puts you in a good mood? Me on you has an upbeat tone and always is a good starter song to put me in a good mood.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? I would allow myself to have super senses and read people’s minds because I value time so reading people’s mind has a strong influence on saving time.
Describe yourself in three words. Perfectionist, sensitive, determined
If you were a farm animal, which one would you be and why? I would be a cow because they have 4 stomachs and are usually on grass so I would have lots of grass to eat and could free roam. They are also one of the bigger farm animals so they have plenty of qualities that are desirable especially after death.
What’s your favorite agriculture-related quote or saying? "If the livestock industry continues to use equipment I have designed, then my 'thoughts live' and my life has meaning." — Temple Grandin
This quote has stuck with me for my entire life. I want to make a difference in the agricultural industry and make a positive impact on the youth that will lead this organization in the future.
Advice you would give? I would say don’t be afraid to be you. It is always something that I strive for new members to understand. It is so important to be the real you because in this organization you are always excepted for who you are and the things you value.
